Super Mom's Kryptonite

Almost 6 months ago when my 2 kids, my 3 yrs & 3 mos old daughter and 5 mos old son, started coughing and eventually turned out to be asthma. They were treated accordingly by their pedia. I got worried when the cough, colds & asthma attacks keep on coming back for 3 months. So I decided to consult a pedia-pulmo, Dr. Luis Rivera of Makati Med, as recommended by my officemate.

At Makati Med, after the check up

The pedia-pulmo was very helpful. I found out that what my kids have is already a persistent asthma, which was getting worse because it was treated as an intermitent one. During their 2 weeks treatment, we spent the Christmas holidays in my hometown in Pangasinan which was really a big help in their treatment. But as soon as we went back to our rented house in Makati City, their asthma came back. So we went back to the pedia-pulmo. And almost every week we went back to his clinic for their check-ups. My son, who was 8 mos old by then, was supposed to have his pneumococal vaccine as soon as we return to Makati after the holidays but I decided not to have him vaccinated since he was still being treated with his asthma.

March 3, 2012: After Dom's check up

March 3, 2012 when I found out my son has pneumonia. He was 10 months old. He was given antibiotics and nebules for his treatment. Dr. Rivera described the pneumonia as crackles (sound).

Ate's playing with Dom while nebulizing
March 8, we went back to Dr. Rivera. Dom's condition is not getting better so he gave a stronger type of antibiotic and additional nebules for the treatment and advice us to return on monday, March 12. He told us that if Dom doesn't get any better with the stronger antibiotics by that time, there's a need for his X-Ray to be taken and, from there, he'll determine if there's a need for confinement. We spent that weekend in Pangasinan to celebrate my mom's 63rd birthday.

In Pangasinan

March 12, 2012 when we return to Dr. Rivera, and thank God, he was better. The doctor said that fresh air in the province did him good. We reported again to Dr. Rivera on March 17 and Dom is better. He told us to stop the antibiotics and all the nebules. But after 5 days, his colds came back. The doctor told us to give him his cold medicine. If Dom doesn't get better till thursday, I'm going to bring him back to his pedia-pulmo. From there, I'll decide if I'm going to bring Dom to the province this weekend, earlier than planned.

It's just lately when I started feeling the stress this is causing me -- financially and emotionally. After our 3-day stay in the province, my boss remembered and asked me how was everything. Then I was suddenly crying but was trying to fight it back. I found myself apologizing to by boss. That afternoon she called my attention, I though it was about work, but no. She asked me if I was fine with everything that was going on -- with work and at home. And I said yes. It's just that everything that's happening to my kids' health was starting to sink into me.

I'm hoping and praying that my kids, especially Dominic, will be better soon. We're looking for a place to move into since the environment of the house we're renting is no longer healthy for me and my kids.

Another Fun Wednesday!

I was excited last March 21 to go to Rustan's to claim my Gift Certificates.

Delta's Skymiles was very helpful -- financially! :)) Instead of using the miles traveling, I used them to purchase the Rustan's Gift Certificate worth Php2,000, which I used to buy my kids' milk and nappies. I still used my credit card though, but it was minimal since my kids' milk and nappies cost more than the GC's worth. :))

After claiming the Rustan's GC, I went to Glorietta 4 to meet with my hubby, sister and cousin. We watched the advance screening of The Hunger Games. :)

Good Housekeeping magazine's Mommy Makeover

It's been 1 year and 4 mos since I had my Makeover at Azta Urban Salon and photoshoot at the Summit Studio and I'm still getting good feedback esp. with my hair. And this I shared with Good Housekeeping magazine's Beauty & Fashion Editor, Ms. Pia Rojas.

People keep on asking me what did I do with my hair. Did I had a digital perm or something like that. So I had to tell my GH-Mommy-Makeover story over and over again. But It's really fun telling them my makeover story repeatedly as it was fun doing the shoot.

As far as I can remember, it was September 2012 when I got a message from her. She was asking me if I was willing to be a part of GH’s Mommy Makeover section, which I grab instantly. This was also the time I found out that I was pregnant with my 2nd child, before I had my hair done at the salon.

There were 2 parts of the makeover. First part of the shoot was at a salon to give every mom a fantastic new style (via cut or color, or both). For my hair, it was done by Rich Abella of Azta Urban Salon in Eastwood. Since I just found out I was pregnant, they only did haircut and highlights on my hair.

And the second part consists of a hair and makeup artist and Ms. Pia styling mommies for the main photograph for the feature.

At work, after the final photoshoot

I love the tunic and shorts I wore from Mark & Spencer and the shoes from VNC. And I'm ready to fill my wardrobe with them. My Mommy Makeover was featured on Good Housekeeping's April 2011 issue.

And this is the most fun part of it, I shared my recent pictures to Ms. Pia and tell her how happy I am with all the result the makeover had done to me. So I told her that I want to share some of my mommy-friends' fashion dilemma. And this was her reply (part of it):

However, as per Ms. Pia, this is just a fashion feature so there’s no free haircut or hair makeover. This is just a fashion shoot that’s unfortunately, set for March 30, a Friday, at the Summit studio.

Follow my blog, if you're interested, so you could leave a comment and I can give the rest of the details! :) Hurry! Fashion shoot is on March 30! :)

I want to share this to all mommies out there who could be more beautiful than they'll ever know! :))

Goodluck fellow mommies! :)

Mhia and Dominic's Gymboree Day

Everytime my parents visit my kids, their 2 and only grandchildren, they love to them for a walk in the mall or play at Gymboree - Greenbelt 5.

Last February 26, 2011, I made reservation for my son's 1st birthday at Jollibee - Makati Ave. together with my hubby & daughter, Mhia. :)

Mhia loves taking her pic with Jollibee. "Mommy picture mo ko!"
We had our lunch there then headed for Greenbelt 5 to meet with my parents, my sister, my son Dominic and his yaya.
Mhia saw another Jollibee statue at Greenbelt 1 so she asked me again to take her pic with her lolo and little brother, John Dominic.

Since Mhia, Kristian and I already had our lunch at Jollibee Makati Ave., the rest of the family had their lunch at Via Mare Greenbelt 1. Dominic was having fun playing with his reflection on the restaurant's big wall mirror.

After the lunch at Via Mare, Mhia & Dom had their gymplay at Gymboree - Greenbelt 5.

Mhia was 9 months old when she started to walk, same as Dom. But at 10 month old, Mhia can go on her own walking around the room carefree! :)) She won't mind flopping down on her bottom.

But Dominic is different. At 10 months, he still tries to balance himself. I observed that he's too careful with everything he does -- like when he's standing and wants to sit down or crawl, he's going to look for something he can hold on to before he does anything. And he really moves slowly, like he's afraid of hurting himself. He can walk around in his crib alone but, outside his comfort zone, we have to hold his hands so he can walk around the house. :)
